Made during the atypically dry conditions of 2023 spring in Yunnan, 'Macroscope' is perhaps one of the most refined expressions of raw puerh that we've made. Thick, resinous, and oily in the mouth, with a hard-hitting fragrance and mouth-coating sweetness — everything that raw puerh is about.
The unseasonably dry weather that marked 2023 spring resulted in a vastly reduced volume of tea production across the board. From what material we could find, its overall character was generally intensified. The materials used here are all from old-growth trees nestled in pockets of forest, protected from the harsh sun, and with their own groundwater sources to draw from with far-reaching roots.
As you'd expect from a tea made under these conditions, 'Macroscope' is as unique as it is complex. This tea has a strained and powerful profile - almost as though it had been distilled - and it's viscous without compromising on boldness. There's an almost creamy edge to its multilayered viridescent sweetness. If you’re a fan of our previous productions at this price point, we’d recommend hitting this one as hard as you can.
While there are benefits to dry weather, all things come with a cost. In this case, it meant reduced volumes of available tea; or in other words, we would've made a lot more of this tea if it were possible. At its best, blending tea materials is a way to make a tea that's greater than the sum of its parts. In this case, we made a banger (if we do say so ourselves).
