This necklace features imagery from Pietro da Cortona’s Allegory of Divine Providence and Barberini Power, the monumental ceiling fresco created for the Palazzo Barberini in 17th century Rome. The composition is filled with swirling allegorical figures, theatrical movement, and layered symbolism designed to overwhelm the viewer with grandeur and spectacle.
The fragment used here captures a luminous female figure with outstretched arms, suspended within the movement of the fresco as though caught mid-performance. There is something wonderfully operatic about her gesture, framed by soft clouds, marble architecture, and shadowed figures emerging behind her. Removed from the vast ceiling, the image becomes more intimate, almost dreamlike, like a fleeting scene remembered from a stage production or old master painting.

Collector’s Notes:
One of the things I love most about Baroque painting is its sense of movement and emotional drama. Even the smallest fragments feel alive, as though the figures might step beyond the painted surface at any moment.
