Fire Red Cherry Shrimp are among the most popular freshwater shrimp in the planted aquarium hobby. Bred from the classic Cherry Shrimp, this hybrid variety develops vivid red tones that stand out beautifully against healthy aquarium plants—especially green ones! Fire Reds are a great introductory shrimp as they’re relatively hardy and don’t require the specialized care that more advanced species often need. Despite their popularity, they remain readily available and are an affordable, fun way to bring color and activity into any planted tank.

Freshwater aquarium shrimp are also very small, meaning you can safely keep a good-sized colony even in a nano aquarium without overcrowding. While shrimp are often associated with algae control, Fire Reds shouldn’t be compared to the cleaning powerhouse, Amano Shrimp. Still, they spend their days grazing and foraging, making them both practical and fun to observe in planted aquaria. They also breed readily under most conditions, making them a great first time choice for beginner shrimp keepers.

Shrimp are extremely sensitive to copper. If using tap, be sure to use a dechlorinator to ensure safety for your invertebrates.
Fire Reds are peaceful. Keep them in an aquarium with non-agressive tank mates to ensure their safety.
