The LobsterStick Heavy is the thicker, stiffer version of our original LobsterStick — built for divers who want more rigidity when working deeper holes, larger lobsters, or tighter reef structure. At 1/2" wide and 36" tall, it gives you extra leverage and control without adding bulk. Same 2-in-1 design: tickle stick on one end, snare loop on the other.

We designed the Heavy after hearing from divers who loved the original but wanted something with a little more backbone for serious lobstering. If you're regularly working ledges in 20 to 40 feet, chasing larger bugs deeper into the structure, or you just prefer a tool that feels more solid in your hand, this is your model. Still made right here in the USA, still priced so the whole boat can get one.

Specs

  • Length: 36 inches
  • Width: 1/2 inch (thicker than the standard model)
  • Function: 2-in-1 tickle stick and lobster snare
  • Best for: Experienced divers, deeper water, larger spiny lobsters
  • Built for: Florida spiny lobster season (mini season July 29–30, 2026 and regular season Aug 6 – March 31)
  • Made: Manufactured and assembled in the United States
  • Price: $40

How the Heavy differs from the standard

The extra 1/8" of width makes a noticeable difference in how the tool feels underwater. The standard LobsterStick flexes slightly — great for nimble work in shallow reef. The Heavy has almost no flex, which means when you're reaching 24 inches back into a dark ledge to coax out a 3-pound bug, the stick does exactly what your hand tells it to do. For divers who've been lobstering for years and know what they want in a tool, the Heavy is usually the one they stick with.

How to use it

Same technique as any snare and tickle stick combo — find your lobster, approach from the front or side, use the stick end to gently guide it toward open water or backward out of its hole. Once the tail is exposed and clear of the reef, position the snare loop behind the carapace and over the abdomen, then pull firmly to cinch. The wider body of the Heavy gives you better feedback through the tool so you can feel when you've got a solid position before you pull.

Who this is for

The LobsterStick Heavy is the right choice for experienced lobster divers who want maximum control, anyone regularly working deeper structure in the Florida Keys, Islamorada, Marathon, or Key West, and divers going after larger spiny lobsters later in the regular season (August through March). If you're new to lobstering, we recommend starting with the standard LobsterStick — it's a little more forgiving and just as effective for most situations.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Heavy worth the extra $5 over the standard?
If you're an experienced diver who spends serious time on the water during lobster season, yes. The added stiffness and control makes a real difference in tight reef situations. If you're a casual snorkeler doing mini season once a year, the standard model will serve you just as well.

Is using a snare legal in Florida?
Yes. The FWC permits snares for recreational spiny lobster harvest as long as they don't puncture the shell. The LobsterStick Heavy loop cinches around the tail without penetrating — fully legal under current FWC regulations. Always check myfwc.com for the latest rules before your dive.

Why is this currently sold out?
The Heavy sells out fast leading into mini season. Sign up for back-in-stock notifications above and we'll email you the moment it's available. We recommend ordering as early as possible — demand spikes significantly in June and July.

Can I use this in the Bahamas or Caribbean?
The LobsterStick Heavy works great for Caribbean spiny lobster as well. Just make sure you know the local regulations for whichever destination you're diving — rules vary by country and marine protected area.
