Touareg Silver Veil Weight

Worn by nomadic Touareg women of Mali, Niger and Algeria, these ornaments were originally intended to hold veils in place during domestic tasks and desert winds. The veil weight also functioned as a key to the padlock of a camel-leather side-bag. The elaborate designs derive from a rich and ancient Touareg symbology. These pieces are decades old, richly engraved, hinged, and averaging 20 centimetres in length. Suitable for either wear as a pendant or display, these veil weights may be purchased individually or as a collection, with some adjustment to price.
