However, we have found it is VERY rarely the cradles or cables in these instances (we sell thousands of these per year and have almost no electronics failures.)

The most common fail point is on the Pogo pads on the Samsung devices. Earlier Tab Active 2+3 had extremely soft pads that could wear down over time from vibration. They claim this has been fixed in the Tab Active 5, but we still have evidence of these pads wearing down in high vibration environments.

Often just cleaning the pogo pads with contact cleaner and cloth or even a pencil eraser, solves most issues, provided the pins have not worn down.
