Black King Kong first appeared in the planted aquarium hobby in the early 2000's. These freshwater aquarium shrimp feature black, white, and hints of blue hues, making them a high-contrast and beautiful addition to any planted tank. Their patterns can vary—some fully solid, others color blocked or slightly speckled. One of the classic Taiwan Bees, they're also commonly cross-bred with other popular species to create hybrids and unique color patterns.
BKK shrimp are a little more sensitive, but still considered easy to care for. Basic care includes using remineralized RO water, stable temperatures, and pH levels between 6–6.5, along with quality nutrition. Many shrimp keepers prefer sponge filters for their gentle operation and aeration. Otherwise, these little critters make a great addition to any peaceful freshwater setup. They spend much of their time grazing and eating algae or biofilm from aquarium plants, glass, substrate, and hardscape.
Tank size recommendation: 5-10G
Shrimp are extremely sensitive to copper. If using tap, be sure to use a dechlorinator to ensure safety for your invertebrates.
Black King Kong shrimp are peaceful. Keep them in an aquarium with non-agressive tank mates to ensure their safety.
