Native inkberry is a standard in the eastern U.S. landscape with dense, lustrous dark green foliage that is evergreen, cold tolerant and requires minimal maintenance unless used as a hedge. This selection grows 3-4’ tall and suckers less than the species. Inconspicuous greenish-white flowers in spring, if pollinated, are followed by small black berry-like fruits. Use as a specimen, planted in groups or as a hedge. Plant 4’ apart.
