TAILOR TOYO
The souvenir jacket—known as the “Sukajan”—is synonymous with Tailor Toyo’s heritage. Originating in postwar Japan, these embroidered jackets were created for U.S. soldiers stationed in Japan as keepsakes featuring oriental motifs and unit emblems. The predecessor of Tailor Toyo, “Kosho & Co.,” supplied these garments to U.S. military bases, establishing a legacy that continues today. More than a fleeting trend, Tailor Toyo remains the only brand to have carried this culture forward as a true craft.

Front: The chest features a dragon outlined using the base color of the fabric, accompanied by a stylized Mount Fuji—an homage to Japan’s iconic landscape.

The back depicts an eagle and tiger in vibrant, gradient embroidery. The omission of the word “Japan” allows the bold motif to take center stage.



Reverse: Two facing tiger heads adorn the chest, while the back showcases a muscular, hand-embroidered tiger. The pink-and-black colorway captures an authentic vintage atmosphere.

Front: The chest features mirrored white tigers, with a roaring white tiger dominating the back. The embroidery density varies to emphasize texture, leaving black accents within the stripes for dimensional contrast.

Black ribbing and piping further enhance the tiger’s commanding presence.



Reverse: The chest is decorated with an eagle and tiger motif, while the back features a golden dragon over crashing waves and clouds, rendered in striking blue with black outlines to emphasize depth and perspective—a dynamic composition of classic souvenir jacket themes. 



The front zipper uses an original “T.Y.E.” butterfly puller, inspired by the hand-bent zippers of the 1950s. This reversible, dual-sided design faithfully reproduces the feel of early souvenir jacket hardware. 



The collar, cuffs, and hem feature ribbed finishes reminiscent of classic American baseball jackets—a nod to the styles familiar to U.S. servicemen of the era.



Slash pockets with a single-welt finish add functional charm. Each side uses different colors for contrast, bringing playful detail to the reversible construction.
