Original to c.1880, this ornately carved half-hoop ring is set with five chunky old-mine cut diamonds. The central stone is the largest, and the other four are gradually smaller. All cushion-shaped old-mine cut diamonds, one of the earliest diamond cuts, these stones were cut before the discovery of the South Africa deposits. They will have originated from either India or Brazil and been cut by hand under daylight or candle light. No two are ever the same, yet their imperfections are what make them so special and unique. Their deep proportions and chunky facets allow them to glow in a softer more romantic way than modern laser-cut diamonds. All diamonds claw set with delicate split prong detail, the gallery is chased in ornate scrolling motifs each separated by ridge, the result is a very refined, expertly crafted ring that is a joy to admire from every angle. Leading to shoulders engraved with further scrolling motifs that flow to a solid 18ct yellow gold band.
