The Hioki CT9555 Series Sensor Unit is a power supply for high-precision current sensors with waveform output functionality. The series comprises three models — the single-channel CT9555 and CT9556 and the four-channel CT9557 — each designed to power Hioki current sensors fitted with an ME15W output connector while passing their measurement signals through to recording instruments. In addition to serving as a four-channel power supply, the CT9557 can also output a single waveform from an aggregate of input waveforms.
The series is built to aggregate and measure large currents in multi-cable circuits. By attaching a current sensor to each branch cable and combining the sensor signals, the CT9557 adds current waveforms from up to four input channels and converts them into a 2 V f.s. waveform, making it possible to measure high-capacity equipment such as solar power conditioners and inverters — installations where issues with ratings and cable diameters made measurement impossible in the past. Because the device treats multiple sensors as a single sensor, the aggregated current can be measured with a single power meter. The units also support high-precision current measurement with a data logger: waveform output is monitored on the DC current side and RMS output on the AC current side, so even a logger that lacks RMS-conversion functionality — including a wireless logger — can be used to measure AC current.
ValueTronics supports this Hioki series from our own 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, where we stock and hold our inventory rather than sourcing each order on demand.
The CT9555 Series Sensor Unit is a family of power supplies for high-precision current sensors with waveform output. All three models accept Hioki current sensors with an ME15W output connector and present their signals through BNC and ME15W terminals at a 2 V f.s. scale into a 50 Ω output resistance.
The models differ in channel count and in the set of output functions each provides. The single-channel CT9555 and CT9556 share a compact 33 mm-wide body, while the four-channel CT9557 occupies a wider 116 mm body to accommodate four sensor inputs and its aggregation outputs.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing for the new unit. Select the model that matches your channel count and output requirements, then choose the condition and configuration on that model's page.
The CT9557 is the four-channel model in the series and the only one with total-output functionality: it adds current waveforms from up to four input channels into a single 2 V f.s. total waveform output and can also produce a total RMS output, allowing high-capacity multi-cable circuits to be measured with a single power meter.
The three models are distinguished by their output functions as listed in the series guide. The CT9555 is a single-channel unit providing waveform output only. The CT9556 is a single-channel unit providing both waveform output and RMS output. The CT9557 is a four-channel unit providing channel-specific waveform output, total waveform output, and total RMS output.
Response time of 0.8 s is defined for the RMS and total RMS outputs on the CT9556 and CT9557; it is not defined for the waveform-only CT9555. The CT9557 ships with the Z1002 AC adapter (rated to 155 VA with sensors), while the single-channel units ship with the Z1008 AC adapter (rated to 45 VA with sensors). See the comparison table for the per-model output, dimension, mass, and power details.
| Model | Input Channels | Output Functions | AC Adapter |
|---|---|---|---|
| CT9557 | 4 | Channel-specific waveform output, Total waveform output, Total RMS output | Z1002 |
| CT9555 | 1 | Waveform output | Z1008 |
| CT9556 | 1 | Waveform output, RMS output | Z1008 |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.
Replaces: per the manufacturer, this model replaces 9555-10.
Important: Connectable current sensors: Hioki current sensors with an ME15W (male) output connector, such as the CT686x-05 and CT684x-05 series.
Important: Power can be supplied from an external battery (10 to 30 V DC external power supply input).
Important: The CT9904 connection cable is for connecting the CT9557 total output to the PW6001 or PW3390 only.
