This Strathmill 1992 was bottled by Cadenhead's in their Small Batch series after 24 years of maturation . It was matured in a combination of bourbon hogshead and two small barrels , which added extra concentration without overpowering the distillate.
Strathmill is known as a quiet worker in Speyside: few official releases, but beloved by independent bottlers. This is beautifully reflected in this edition. The nose opens with ripe apple, vanilla, light honey, and soft spices , followed by floral notes and a subtle woody influence. On the palate, it is elegant and refined: creamy malt, citrus zest, almond, and a light waxy note , with a beautifully integrated wood structure. The 45.9% alcohol keeps everything balanced and leaves room for nuance. The finish is medium to long, dry, slightly spicy, and very clean .
This isn't a boisterous whisky, but a classic, mature Speyside for connoisseurs who prefer finesse over power. Typical Cadenhead: pure, unfiltered, uncolored, and with respect for the distillate.
