"This Vintage Ring is collet-set with an oval black opal, displaying a superb play of colour against a grey background. This opal is exceptional in displaying a true rainbow of colours, including red, in broad flashes against a darker body colour, meaning an underlying structure of significant complexity, and resulting in a stone of extraordinary vibrancy. Opals became extremely popular during the mid 19th century, with the best deposits located in Mexico, and in particular, Australia’s ‘Lightning Ridge’. The pierced shoulders are millegrain-set with cushion-shaped diamonds, their delicate details complementing the simple cabochon form of the opal."~What does my gemstone mean?OpalOpal is a gemstone with a heavy symbolic attachment. It has long been a symbol of hope, purity, and truth and its characteristic prismatic appearance grants it a reputation of nothing less than enchanting. In folklore, it was thought to be the most rare and powerful gem. A great symbol of love, that was even referred to as the Cupid Stone. This romantic connotation has led some to believe that it has properties that promote romance and passion.
